TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Universitas Indonesia (UI) solidified its position as the best in Indonesia for five consecutive years based on the assessment by QS Asia University Rankings (QS AUR) 2025.
At the Asian level, UI’s position rose by two ranks, from 48 to 46. UI’s total score is 74.7 out of 984 universities from 25 countries. This was announced at the QS Asia Pacific Summit 2024 at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on November 6, 2024 at 17:00 local time.
A UI delegation attended the event, led by the Head of the Transformation, Risk Management, and Evaluation Monitoring Bureau (TREM) UI, Vishnu Juwono.
The international ranking institution QS AUR 2025 uses four main criteria in its assessment, namely Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, and Global Engagement.
These criteria are further broken down into eleven indicators, namely Academic Reputation (30 percent), Employer Reputation (20 percent), Faculty Student Ratio (10 percent), Citations per Paper (10 percent), International Research Network (10 percent), Papers per Faculty (5 percent), Staff with Ph.D (5 percent), International Student Ratio (2.5 percent), International Faculty Ratio (2.5 percent), Inbound Exchange Students (2.5 percent), and Outbound Exchange Students (2.5 percent).
UI scored highest in the Inbound Exchange Students (100.0), Outbound Exchange Students (100.0), International Faculty Ratio (98.8), and Employer Reputation (98.0) indicators.
Overall, UI saw an increase in scores in almost all assessment indicators. UI also rose in ranks in seven indicators, namely Inbound Exchange Students, Employer Reputation, International Faculty Ratio, Academic Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, International Student Ratio, and International Research Network.
UI Rector Ari Kuncoro expressed appreciation for this achievement. For five consecutive years, Ari said, UI has maintained its position as the top university in Indonesia and continues to rise in Asia. According to him, this certainly requires hard work from the entire academic community at UI.
“We continue to expand our global reach, in addition to improving the quality of education, producing impactful research, and developing collaborations with various partners from domestic and overseas. Hopefully, this achievement can be further enhanced so that UI can become one of the best universities in Asia,” Ari said in a written message on Thursday, September 6, 2024.
Meanwhile, Vishnu Juwono, Head of TREM UI, besides leading the UI delegation in Macau, also presented a paper titled “Environment, Sustainable and Governance (ESG) Universities in Southeast Asian Universities: Challenges and Collaborative Solutions.”
Vishnu stated that UI’s achievement in QS AUR 2025, consistently excelling at the national level and improving at the Asian level, lays a strong foundation for the next UI leadership to enhance the quality of educational activities, community service, and publications within the university environment.
“The overall performance improvement of UI can be seen in the rise in rankings in various international assessments, including QS Asia University Rankings,” he said.
With this achievement, UI is optimistic about continuing the positive trend in various world rankings, and becoming a leading educational center in the Asian region.
