Starting from Karawang, Shallow Earthquakes Shake Kuningan and Cianjur Today: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded three shallow earthquakes that could be felt in West Java throughout today, Thursday November 7, 2024. Starting from Karawang earlier this morning, two other shallow earthquakes were felt in Kuningan and Cianjur on Thursday afternoon.
As previously reported, a 2.7 magnitude earthquake shook Telukjambe Barat in Karawang Regency at 06:15 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time). The epicenter was on land, 10 kilometers southeast of Karawang Regency.
Originating from active fault activities at a depth of 10 kilometers, the measurable vibrations on the II-III MMI scale could only be felt by some people indoors. Or, the earthquake could also be felt clearly indoors as if a truck was passing by.
The earthquake in Kuningan was recorded by BMKG at 05:14 PM WIB. The 2.8 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter also on land at a depth of 18 kilometers. The surface vibrations felt were stated by BMKG to be at the III MMI scale in Kuningan.

The earthquake in Cianjur occurred at 06:18 PM WIB. The 2.8 magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was also on land, 20 kilometers northeast of Cianjur Regency center. Its depth was only 4 kilometers. According to BMKG, the intensity of the earthquake was at the III MMI scale in Cipatat, Cipeundeuy, and Cikalong.
There is no further detailed explanation from BMKG regarding the trigger of the two earthquakes on Thursday afternoon.
