TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto embarks on his state visit to China from November 8 to 10, 2024. According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Hua Chunying, Prabowo’s visit is upon the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
President Xi Jinping will hold a welcoming ceremony for President Prabowo, and the two presidents will hold talks. Another ministry spokesperson, Mo Ning, said Li Qiang, the Prime Minister of China, and Zhao Leji, the Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, will also meet with Prabowo, as cited from Xinhua.
According to Mao, China and Indonesia are good neighbors facing each other across the sea and good partners sharing a common future.
Prabowo paid his first visit to China shortly after being elected back in March. The upcoming three-day visit will be his first after being inaugurated as Indonesian president in late October.
Mao said Prabowo’s visit showcases the great importance of developing relations with China and demonstrates the strong ties between China and Indonesia.
“China is ready to work with Indonesia to take this visit as an opportunity to consolidate high-level political mutual trust, deepen all-round strategic cooperation, and elevate the building of a China-Indonesia community with a shared future to new heights, thus injecting strong impetus into the two countries’ respective modernization processes and contributing to regional and global prosperity,” Mao said.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Prabowo will meet Xi Jinping and other high-ranking officials during his time in China. “The visit to China holds significant meaning in strengthening the commitment of enhancing the strategic comprehensive partnership cooperation between Indonesia and China in various fields,” quoted from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, confirmed last Friday that Prabowo will visit China and the United States, then attend the APEC Summit (in Peru), the G20 Summit (in Brazil), and London.
In the United States, Prabowo is likely to meet President-elect Donald Trump as well as Joe Biden, as confirmed by the Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi.
