TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his interest in learning from China on how to overcome poverty during a state visit to Beijing on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Prabowo met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During the bilateral meeting, the head of state expressed his interest in learning from China’s experience in eradicating poverty.

“We will strengthen our efforts to eradicate poverty and I think we also want to learn more from China’s experience,” he said in his official statement at the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Prabowo said that the government is striving to strengthen poverty eradication efforts in Indonesia. In his government lineup, Prabowo has established a new agency that focuses on poverty mitigation in Indonesia.

In his bilateral meeting with Li Qiang, Prabowo also discussed cooperation in the economic sector. He mentioned that several Indonesian and Chinese companies would soon sign business agreements.

“With an investment value of more than US$10 billion,” he said.

Prabowo hopes that economic investment can strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ businesses. He also encourages further engagement between the Indonesian and Chinese communities.

At the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by several of his cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto, Investment and Industrial Estates Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Also present were Deputy Defense Minister Doni Hermawan, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Research and Technology Stella Christie, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Housing Fahri Hamzah, Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, Air Force Chief Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono, and Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Ali.
