TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Head of the Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center or PPATK Ivan Yustiavandana stated that the fund rotation from online gambling in the second semester of 2024 has significantly increased to Rp283 trillion. He conveyed this at the working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

“The growth of online gambling appears to be accelerating compared to previous periods,” said Ivan on Wednesday.

He mentioned that in the first semester of 2024, the amount of online gambling fund rotation reached Rp174 trillion. This figure rose in the second semester of 2024, reaching Rp283 trillion.

Additionally, Ivan revealed an increase in the transaction value by 237.48 percent compared to last year. He assessed that this is happening because on average, online gambling bookmakers made transactions with small amounts. “In the past, one bookmaker’s account could have a high figure, but now they split it into small amounts,” he said.

The habit of Indonesians exposed to online gambling supports this modus operandi. Ivan said that now online gamblers in the country also only make transactions in small amounts.

“People used to make transactions worth millions in online gambling, now it can be Rp10,000. This leads to massive transactions,” he said.

He also noted that gamblers in Indonesia spend almost 70% of their income on online gambling. “In the past, if someone earned Rp1 million, they would only spend Rp100,000 to Rp200,000, but now it’s up to Rp900,000 for online gambling,” he explained.

Ivan also mentioned that the age of online gamblers has now expanded to include underage children. PPATK, he said, has found online gambling players under the age of 10.
