Jakarta Police Thwart Drug Smuggling Worth Rp418 Billion

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Metro Police foiled a drug smuggling of 207 kilograms from Malaysia to Riau. The illegal drugs were to be shipped and distributed in Jakarta. “The Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Directorate seized a total of 117 kilograms of crystal meth and 90,000 ecstasy pills,” said Jakarta Metro Police Chief Ins. Gen. Karyoto on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
Police have named three people as suspects, namely AM, A and JI. They were nabbed in three different locations in Riau. They are suspected of acting as couriers in the distribution network of narcotics from Malaysia – Riau – Jakarta.
In addition to this international network, the West Jakarta Police Narcotics Investigation Unit also thwarted the drug distribution from Sumatra, especially the Aceh-Medan-Riau network. “We seized 90,321 grams of crystal meth,” Karyoto said. “So, the total amount of crystal meth is 207,321 kilograms.”
Currently, West Jakarta police have arrested one suspect.
The four suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph 2 subsider Article 112 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics with a penalty of 5 years imprisonment and a maximum death penalty. They are now being detained by the Jakarta Metro Police for further investigation.
