TEMPO.CO, JakartaDirector General of Housing of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Iwan Suprijanto, claimed that foreign investors have signaled interest in President Prabowo Subianto’s 3 million  housing program. These investors come from China, Dubai, and Qatar, he said.

However, Iwan could not confirm whether the interest is for investment purposes. “I don’t know yet, but they have expressed interest and plans,” he said on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, adding that the plans likely include a memorandum of understanding, or MoU.

Iwan stated that his ministry, which has been separated as the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas in Prabowo’s government, will first review the cooperation potential with these foreign investors. “We want to ensure it’s clear. We don’t want the investment to burden the country or the people going forward,” said Iwan.

President Prabowo first pledged the 3 million housing program during his presidential campaign. After his inauguration as Indonesian president, Prabowo separated the Ministry of Public Works and Housing into the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, headed by Maruarar Sirait and Fahri Hamzah as his deputy minister.

Next year, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas will receive a Rp5.078 trillion budget for 2025. The budget originally belonged to the Directorate General of Housing of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

The 3 million housing program is underway in Tangerang, where 250 residential units are being constructed starting November 1. The ministry will also attempt to obtain the land for this program for free, one of which is by utilizing seized land.
