Prabowo Meets PM Li Qiang, Plans to Send More Indonesian Students to Chinese Universities

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China as part of his state visit on Saturday, November 9, 2024. During the meeting, the Indonesian president expressed his willingness to cooperate with China in the education sector.
Prabowo said the Indonesian government plans to send students from the country to study in China. “We would like to send more and more of our students,” he said in a video statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
According to the president, this cooperation can build an educated younger generation. In addition, he said, cooperation in the field of education with China can address the existing global challenges.
Prabowo also appreciated the reception they received from the Chinese government. He said that the state visit reflects the diplomatic relations and friendship of both countries.
The head of state said that Indonesia considers China an important friendly country and a valuable partner for the present and the future.
In the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by several of his cabinet ministers, such as Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto, Minister of Investment and Industry/Ketua Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Also present were Deputy Defense Minister Doni Hermawan, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie, Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Fahri Hamzah, RI Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono, and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali.
